GENERAL INFORMATION

Alpena Youth Sailing Club was started in 2001 to teach and introduce youth and adults to sailing.  Sailing is a fun and life long activity that we hope more people can experience and enjoy.
All classes are taught by U.S. Sailing certified instructors. Safety is our primary concern; lifejackets are worn at all times.  Youth classes are held on the Thunder Bay River above the Second Avenue bridge behind NOAA or on Grand Lake at the Presque Isle Harbor Association Grand Lake Beach property. Most classes are scheduled for five days and we attempt to guarantee at least four days.  If more than one class session is cancelled due to weather we will arrange for one make-up session.

Youth are welcome (and encouraged) to sign up for multiple classes. We focus on fun. Youth will swim, sail, and learn in a fun environment. We have different levels of advancement so students can move from one level to the next at their own pace.

The Alpena Youth Sailing Team is our local Yngling youth racing team.  For more experienced sailors this is an opportunity for them to race Ynglings out of the Alpena Municipal Small Boat Harbor on Lake Huron and compete in out of town regattas as well.
